October 11th, 2012 kicked off day two of our Spring Collections and after the fun and success of the day prior, we couldn’t wait to see what day two had in store.

The afternoon kicked off with a a lunch and lesson in Macro Trends from the West Coast’s very own Sally Lohan of WGSN where attendees learned first hand what’s going to be in and out this coming spring. From space themes, to art deco themes to storybook themes, fashionistas were on the edge of their seats wanting to know the trends for Spring 2013.

The lesson was swiftly followed by the debut of Argentinian turned Angeleno designer Luciana Salamone’s Spring 2013 collection – echoing both Victorian and the thirties. The collection was heavily romantic featuring cream colored lace and white gloves.

A dramatic and artistic film installation and performance, including ballet, from Kittinhawk, by designer Allysun Dutra, mesmerized the audience and offered a insight in to the artistic background of this designer. The performance was well choreographed and told a dark, melodramatic story.

AGAIN, from designer Amber Kekich, was up next, with her ready-to-wear collection. Attendees were instantly drawn to the baby’s breath on the ground and the white roses ready for them at their seats. Her spring collection titled ‘Grey Gardens’ consisted of dresses and separates complete with amazing prints and neon detailing, right on trend.

Closing out our two days of shows was the debut apparel collection from Luxury Jones, by designer Niki Dimitras, best known for her footwear, her debut apparel collection, created from reclaimed fabrics and vintage items, will be sold in Urban Outfitters from December.

We’re so thankful for everyone who came and supported our first set of shows and everyone who tweeted, facebooked and instagramed the day away. We had an amazing time putting this together and were so pleased to showcase the Los Angeles based talent we love.

Stay tuned for next season!

On October 10th, 2012, Carondelet House, near downtown Los Angeles, opened its doors for day one of our first “home turf” shows. We were so excited to launch this exclusive series of intimate shows, echoing the salon shows of centuries past.

The first presentation of the day came from, sustainable and stylized line, ISM Mode. Designer, Inka Sherman, had an array of styles in this seasons collection, from seamless, flowy maxi skirts to structured shirt dresses, the collection appeals across the board – to those seeking stylized basics and those who want a complete sophisticated look – made all the more special by the sustainable fabrics.

Shortly after came the ever romantic Odylyne. A crowd favorite, this whimsical, poetic collection combined patterns with goddess-esque silhouettes. Models formed a circle around candles and vases inviting attendees to take photos. The bronze-like butterflies that adorned each models hair are sure to inspire the style blogging set, a finishing touch to a goddess inspired collection.

Jen Awad’s Spring 2013 collection, titled “Down the Rabbit Hole”, was a fun combination of retro, feminine designs. Awad used checkered and stripe prints along with bows, tulle and cateye sunglasses to create a glamorous and whimsical ladylike collection.

The final show for the evening was Bohemian Society, a line that provided the audience with chaos, both literally and figuratively. Designer Victor Wilde’s Spring 2013 collection was inspired by a post apocalyptic world, with a fire colored color palette. Fishnet tops, fishnets pants, fire colored sequins and leather suits strutted down the runway and gave audiences an insight to Wilde’s apocalyptic mind.

How long have you lived in LA?
Born and raised, baby!

Best dive bar?
Darkroom (7302 Melrose Ave): Cheap drinks, chill vibe.

Fave quick eats?
M Cafe de Chaya (7119 Melrose Ave): One hijiki inari with a side of beet quinoa salad and I’m good to go.

It’s date night:where are you headed?

Describe your style in three words.
Minimalist. Sassy. Evolving.

Why do you love L.A?
The weather, the food, the beach and the easy-breezy lifestyle.

You have 24 hours left in L.A – GO!
The day would begin with an early bird hike at Griffith Park. Next, I’d stop at Liquid Juice Bar (8180 Melrose Ave) for one of their addictive acai bowls, followed by shopping sprees at Reformation (8253 Melrose Ave) and TenOverSix(8425 Melrose Ave). I’d then head to Venice for some good beach-reading and people-watching, with a stop at Cafe Gratitude (512 Rose Ave) for lunch. After leisurely walking around Abbot Kinney for a bit (where I’d likely splurge on the metallic Maison Martin Margiela kicks that I’ve been eyeing at Mona Moore for months), I’d meet my fiancé and friends for some happy hour sake action at Yatai (8535 W Sunset Blvd), where we’d talk about the night’s game plan. The evening would feature a weird/awesome art opening at OHWOW Gallery (937 N La Cienega Blvd), a group dinner at Picca (9575 W Pico Blvd) and a marathon dance session with all of my best friends on the rooftop of The Standard Downtown (550 S Flower St), where I’d spin (apparently I know how to DJ in this dream sequence) back-to-back ’90s classics.

Being a huge fan of anything vintage and vintage inspired, it was a given that I would step into Cateye Spectacles, a boutique specializing in vintage, vintage inspired and living deadstock eyewear. Owner Sung Kim opened his doors to Los Angeles two and a half years ago in East Hollywood. Having worked for several years in optometry and with a leading Los Angeles eyewear company his appreciation for the fashion of eyewear grew. He dreamed of someday opening his own business.

At Cateye Spectacles shoppers can find vintage eyewear dating from the early 1900s to the 1980s. Vintage inspired eyewear from brands such as Andy Wolf, Ray Ban and the boutiques own house-brand. Cateye Spectacles shoppers come from all walks of life, they’re young, old, stylists and musicians. Cateye Spectacles have been worn by Raphael Sadiq , John Legend, Lady Gaga and The Wanted.

Sung Kim loves the East Hollywood neighborhood location of his boutique, he enjoys the artsy and independent vibe, he says. He is proud to represent Los Angeles and welcomes the diversity and open mindedness that this city has to offer.

Cateye Spectacles will soon be opening its online shop, so stay tuned. Shoppers can also expect to see other CS boutiques in major cities in the future. Cateye Spectacles is here to stay and welcomes all who have a love for vintage. With its knowledgeable staff and stellar selection, vintage vixens will be sure to find something to suit their style. Whether shoppers are looking for vintage or retro eyewear, they won’t be disappointed.

Where’s your ‘hood?

Downtown Glendale

Day Job?

Multiple Career Disorderist! Mostly PR and Marketing with lots of Digital Strategy and Events! Owner of Stylesmith Media, President of Two Point Oh! LA and Director of this here organization.

How long have you lived in LA?

Almost seven years.

Best dive bar?

Bar 107 in downtown Los Angeles.

Fave quick eats?

Before I went vegetarian there was nothing like a bacon wrapped downtown dog! Now… I love the veggie tacos at Hugos Tacos.

It’s date night: where are you headed?

Dinner at Little Doms in Los Feliz, followed by serenades from Marty and Elaine at The Dresden Room.

You want to get dressed up. where are you going?

Usually a fashion event!

Your secret shopping destination?

St Vincent de Paul Thrift Store in Lincoln Heights…shhh. Don’t tell!

Describe your style in three words:

Preppy, Feminine, Childish.

Why do you love L.A?

It has everything. I love that I get to pick which small town culture I get to play in each day – there’s just so much variety, which we all know is the spice of life!

You have 24 hours left in L.A – GO!

I’d be torn between Malibu and Downtown – can I have 48 hours?! It’d either be sandwiches from Johns Garden (Malibu Country Mart) eaten on the beach at El Matador, followed by wine tasting at Malibu Wines and Cornell Winery, with maybe a trip to Paramount Ranch for a walk and photo opp OR my four countries, one day, one city, tour: Morning shopping and sightseeing in Chinatown (when the sun hits those lanterns!) followed by lunch at Olvera Street, followed by shopping and dinner in Little Tokyo (Shojin – for vegan sushi!) followed by Mojitos poolside at Hotel Figueroa and ending it all with a late night breakfast at The Pantry.

Two perfect sides of L.A.
